NEOS is committed to a mobility transition: important projects for Vienna and the surrounding area!
On September 25th, decisive decisions were made in Vienna for the future of the transport infrastructure. The NEOS submitted three proposals to the responsible commissions, all of which have a clear goal: to improve the quality of traffic and quality of life in the city. A motion for a resolution to support an urban development program at the Vienna University of Technology for the expansion of the Southern Railway, also known as Corridor+, was assigned to the District Development Commission. This four-track expansion is intended not only to increase capacity, but also to promote the urban and transport planning improvements that are urgently needed to take the mobility transition into account.
The Transport Commission also received important impetus from the NEOS applications. On the agenda there, among other things, was the restoration of the cycle path between Brunner Straße and Wildagasse and the widening of the sidewalk on Rodauner Straße. This shows that the party has a good hand when it comes to bringing cycling to the fore and giving pedestrians more space.
Current developments on the southern railway expansion
At the same time, a public discussion took place on the same day as part of the environmental impact assessment process for the southern railway expansion. Around 50 people were present to find out about the current status of the project and ask questions. Particularly interesting was the participation of a member of the community's non-partisan working group, which wants to get involved in this important issue. According to their blog, the NEOS have invested a lot of time and energy in the community's comments on the process. This shows how important the opinions of citizens are to them.
A central topic was noise protection measures. There was some confusion due to errors in the noise protection documents, which resulted from incorrect transmission of data. However, the ÖBB made it clear that the calculation of the noise protection measures was correct. This shows that there is still room for improvement in communication between the authorities and the public.
The mobility transition in focus
Current developments are a sign that mobility has a high priority in our society. However, the mobility transition is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity. Cities and municipalities are the main players here and have to promote new concepts and alternative means of transport without wanting to make sacrifices. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport has launched initiatives that could also find support in Vienna and the surrounding area.
Projects such as NaMIx, which is developing an index to assess the sustainability of mobility in urban districts, shed a bright light on the necessary change. Such tools are crucial to creating a pedestrian-friendly and environmentally conscious transport infrastructure. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport emphasizes the importance of accurate local data for this planning and the implementation of measures that benefit people.
Overall, it can be seen that there is a lot of movement in terms of transport and urban development in Vienna and the surrounding communities. With a clear focus on sustainability and citizen participation, the NEOS and other political actors seem to be pursuing different paths, but the goal remains constant: a livable and mobility-friendly future for everyone.
