Construction of the year-round swimming pool in the Höpflerbad has begun!

The future of the Höpflerbad has begun in Liesing. On September 24, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new swimming pool was officially held, a significant step for the population of Atzgersdorf and the surrounding area. Construction work is in full swing and the modern swimming pool is scheduled to be completed in spring 2027. The indoor swimming pool will complement the outdoor pool at Endressstraße 24-26, which has been popular since 1979.

The planned swimming hall will be equipped with a 25-meter pool with starting bases for six swimming lanes. In addition to a one-meter diving board and a three-meter diving platform, a teaching pool (13 x 9 meters) will also be available for beginners. Two children's pools with a total of 29 square meters and a small slide are planned, especially for younger visitors, to increase the fun factor. Further facilities, such as changing rooms and sanitary rooms, as well as a new combined entrance for indoor and outdoor swimming pools, will also be created. [My district] reports that the total cost of the swimming pool is 29 million euros.

Sustainability and modernity

Particular attention is paid to the climate-friendly operation of the new swimming pool. The plan is to use solar power and heat pumps, supported by a photovoltaic system with an area of 1,000 square meters and an output of 225 kWp. In addition, district heating is provided for the remaining energy requirements while the natural gas supply is stopped. To complete the environmentally conscious approach, the roof and facade of the swimming pool are covered in greenery.

Gerald Bischof, who underlines the importance of the Höpflerbad as a central meeting point for sport and recreation, expects the new swimming pool to be open all year round from 2027. This expansion is part of the City of Vienna's comprehensive pool construction program, which has already responded to various challenges in the pool landscape and always relies on sustainable solutions. Information on this is also documented in the brochure “Bäderwelt 2030”, which is available to the DGfdB and deals with future developments in the swimming pool landscape.

Water fun despite construction work

The investment in the new swimming pool not only reflects the city's values, but also shows the commitment to making the local infrastructure contemporary and increasing the quality of life for all Viennese. As [Wiener Districtblatt] correctly states, the Höpflerbad will soon flourish again - not only as an outdoor swimming pool, but also as a modern sports and adventure location for the entire population.
