Record champions Austria Vienna are fighting for glory at the REWE JUNIORCUP!

There is great anticipation because in January 2026 football fans can look forward to the largest U19 indoor football tournament in Europe: the REWE JUNIORCUP. This year the traditional competition will see its 35th edition and will take place from January 8th to 11th in the Lokhalle Göttingen. Of course, the focus is particularly on FK Austria Wien, which is taking part in this exciting event for the 21st time. Over the past few decades, the team has earned a place in the tournament's history books, with five cup wins in 20 appearances.

Austria's last participation ended in the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by eventual winner Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, one bright spot was the outstanding player Hasan Deshishku, who secured the title of top scorer with his 12 goals and was also named Most Valuable Player (MVP). Tournament organizer Holger Jortzik was optimistic about the return of Austria Vienna and emphasized the high quality of the participating teams. So far, teams such as Fortuna Düsseldorf, FC Brugge, Hamburger SV and Schalke 04 have also confirmed their participation.

Participants and highlights

The participation of teams like Hannover 96, who are taking part for the 33rd time, and Mainz 05, who are considered favorites after a strong start to the season, ensures additional excitement during the tournament. Hannover 96 has managed not to miss a tournament since 1991, which underlines the stability and high status of the club. The newly added teams, such as VfR Dostluk Osterode, who are competing again after their premiere last year and won the fair play title, are also bringing a breath of fresh air into the tournament. FC Gleichen, which was formed in 2014 from several clubs, is pleased with a successful start to the season and is taking part for the seventh time. SVG Einbeck 05 is celebrating its eightieth participation and can look back on the title of “Best Region” in 2006.

An event for the fans

The REWE JUNIORCUP is not only a highlight for the participating teams, but also an excellent opportunity for fans to experience the talent of European football up close. Holger Jortzik, the tournament director, emphasizes the importance of the event as a platform for young players. These talents show what they're made of at an international level and give viewers a glimpse of the future stars of professional football.

This event is a must for all football enthusiasts. No matter whether you are a fan of Austria, one of the other teams or just football - the Lokhalle Göttingen will be the scene of exciting encounters and unforgettable moments from January 8th to 11th, 2026. Don't miss the opportunity to be there and support the next generation of football stars!
