Brutal robberies in Vienna: Police are looking for refugee perpetrators!

Brigittenau, Österreich - A dramatic incident in Vienna continues to make headlines: a quartet of young people robbed two young men on the Easter weekend, specifically on April 20 and 21. Both the 18-year-old and the 19-year-old were sometimes seriously injured. Manipulated social media profiles were used-the young people used so-called fake accounts to bait their victims to the meetings. According to Puls24 after the initial contact with public locations in the Leopoldstadt Brigittenau lured.

At the first meeting, the 18-year-old was surprised on April 20 at 4.30 p.m. in Leopoldstadt. The following day it hit the 19-year-old at 7.45 p.m. in the Brigittenau. The young people were already waiting and put the two men under violent threats by forcing them to withdraw money from the ATMs. A brutal attack followed: Both victims were attacked with punches and foot kicks, while the deeds were filmed with mobile phones. The attackers then fled into unknown directions.

arrests and searches

The police were able to arrest three of the four suspects. On May 11, a 16-year-old Serbian citizen was arrested, followed by two Austrians aged 16 and 19, who were caught on May 14th. Now the Vienna State Criminal Police Office is looking for a fourth suspect by fitting. The Vienna public prosecutor's office has published corresponding search photos and asks the population for help: relevant information can be reported anonymously at any police inspection or by telephone on 01-31310-67800, as reported by Meinzärb.

The dimension of youth crime

If the drama of the actions in police statistics is reflected, this could be another sign of the challenges with youth crime. This is often a phenomenon that mainly affects male young people, and statistically, up to 70% of the students in the past 12 months, such as the Federal Center for Political Education noted. The most common offenses are less serious, but violent offenses are all the more noticeable.

In recent years there has been a decline in youth crime, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the topic remains explosive: the increase in acts of violence within this group is alarming. A preventive approach is considered more effective in order to counteract the causes instead of only the symptoms.

The brutal robberies from April are now also raising the question of how vulnerable young people are in the digital age and how easy they can get into the catches of criminals. Together with the law enforcement authorities, it is important to clarify the dangers in social networks and to develop strategies for prevention.
