Wiener Klimateam: 23 new projects for a green city started!
In the third year of its existence, the "Klimateam" in Vienna again took important steps to green the city. As Krone , 23 new projects will be implemented in the districts of Alsergrund, Meidling and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. This initiative allows the Viennese to actively participate in the design of their neighborhoods and to bring in ideas for climate protection. Approximately 1,600 suggestions were submitted to the selection, whereby the citizens from the Alsergrund were particularly active.
The proposed ideas were carefully and spatially divided, which made it possible to develop 41 implementable projects. A jury of randomly selected citizens selected the final projects on three weekends in May and June. A total of eight initiatives for Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, eight for Meidling and seven for the Alsergrund have been selected.
Various projects for more quality of life
Some are particularly noteworthy among the new projects: in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, Friesgasse is converted into a meeting zone and the Maria is upgraded from the winning place. A free bicycle self-help workshop is created in Meidling and a "biodiversity corridor" is created. The Alsergrund shines with the greening of the club stairs and the establishment of an energy community for social electricity distribution. These initiatives show how committed citizens stand up for sustainable urban development.
The climatic team not only sees itself as a implementer of these projects, but would also like to include the population increasingly in the future. Climate Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky plans to expand the concept of the climatic team so that even more Viennese can bring in their ideas. From September 2023, new ideas for the districts of Josefstadt and Penzing will already be collected, as described on the website of Wiener climates' teams
projects
already successfully implementedAs part of the previous phases of the project, 34 concrete ideas have already been implemented, including new greening solutions in schools and housing communities to reduce car traffic in the school environment. Traffic calming measures, such as Pollers on busy street corners, were also successfully installed in order to increase the quality of stay in the districts. Further exciting developments such as the provision of cargo bikes in Floridsdorf show how versatile the approaches are to make Vienna more climate-friendly, such as the standard reported.
Overall, it can be seen that the climatic team is a successful concept of citizen participation in climate protection. Through the active participation of the residents, Vienna can not only become greener, but also more livable. With the upcoming presentation of the selected projects, another step is taken in the direction of a more sustainable metropolis.
