Wolfgang Steiner: The heart of St. Veit shines with special splendor!
There was recently a special occasion to celebrate in St. Veit an der Glan: Wolfgang Steiner was awarded the St. Veit City Heart, a prize that is awarded for special commitment in the ducal city. This award recognizes Steiner's decades-long dedication to social and sporting life in St. Veit. Since 1986, he has been in charge of the club's fortunes as senior shooting master of the 1556 shooting club, with only a short interruption. During his term in office, shooting sports were not only promoted in St. Veit, but also important national titles were won and youth work was strengthened. The shooting range itself underwent an urgently needed modernization.
Mayor Martin Kulmer insisted on highlighting Steiner's commitment and emphasizing his influence on the sense of community in the city. Steiner also contributes to promoting social interaction, including through gastronomic initiatives such as the “10er Treff” or the “zum Postler” café. The City Heart has established itself as an important award to honor people who contribute to the community with heart, drive and humanity. This award confirms the appreciation for the voluntary commitment, which ultimately forms the backbone of many clubs.
Successful Krampus shooting
At the beginning of December, the St. Veit shooting club, under Steiner's direction, organized the traditional Krampus shooting, which received a lot of attention in the region. The competition took place on the first weekend in December at the shooting range at Spitalgasse 27 and attracted numerous participants. The categories in the “Air Rifle” competition were diverse and offered something for everyone:
- Kinder: Eliah Steiner (Sieger)
- Jugend: Pascal Pritz (Sieger)
- Damen: Christina Knes (Sieger)
- Herren: Erich Priomosch (Sieger)
- Pistole Hobby: Alex Wister jun. (Sieger)
- Pistole Wettkampf: Gerhard Sodamin (Sieger)
The results of the competition can be found on the St. Veit shooting club website. With such successful events, the club not only focuses on classic competition, but also promotes peace and freedom through shooting sports, which corresponds to Steiner's vision.
Volunteering in focus
Wolfgang Steiner's commitment is a wonderful example of the appreciation that volunteers in shooting sports should experience. An honest culture of recognition, as is also addressed in the German Shooting Association, not only motivates the active members, but also promotes the positive club climate. The shooting club depends on the individuality and different motives of its volunteers, and it is important that these achievements are publicly recognized. The importance of thanks and recognition cannot be overestimated in increasing the enjoyment of engagement.
In summary, Wolfgang Steiner is honored not only by his award, but also by the respectful recognition he enjoys within the community and beyond. In St. Veit, such personal stories and successes are the icing on the cake of local life.
