Wolves celebrate dramatic victory in Vienna: HCP Pustertal steps up!

In the exciting duel between HCP Pustertal and the Vienna Capitals last Saturday, not only was ice hockey played, but also a real roller coaster ride of emotions. However, the path to victory was anything but easy. Right from the start of the game, both teams showed that they wanted to fight for every point. Thanks to numerous shots and good chances, including from Frycklund and Lipon, HCP Pustertal raised hopes of a quick goal. Despite this effort, the Viennese team took the lead 1-0 thanks to a deflected shot from Hackl in the 11th minute. The first third ended with the Wolves narrowly behind.

Changeable half time

Things went well in the second third: the game was characterized by penalties and passionate defensive work. The Wolves fought their way through the outnumbered game for over twenty minutes and were finally able to equalize through Bardreau in the 30th minute. A few minutes later, Vey made it 2-1 for the Capitals, but HCP was not discouraged and countered a few moments later with Blum to make it 2-2. The game's dramatic turnaround climaxed when Purdeller gave the Wolves a 3-2 lead in the 37th minute.

In the final third the tension was almost unbearable. HCP Pustertal extended the lead to 4:2 in the 46th minute, but the Capitals didn't give up and managed to shorten the lead to 4:3 in the 51st minute. Finally, Franklin came along in the 55th minute and scored a goal to tie the score at 4-4, sending the game into overtime.

Lauridsen as a hero

However, in overtime the Wolves showed their class and determinedly hunted for victory. Lauridsen, who scored his first goals for HCP Pustertal, finally made his team celebrate in extra time. A strong performance that took into account the plans of coach Jason Jaspers, who has been at the helm since May 2024 and relied on goalkeeper Jakob Rabanser.

With this victory, the team not only collects valuable points, but is also optimistic about the next game on Friday against HC Bozen - the first derby of the season, which will certainly go down in the history books.
