Traffic chaos in Vienna: Demos for Srebrenica and Palestine on Saturday!
Next Saturday, June 6, 2025, Vienna will be dominated by two important demonstrations that are expected to cause significant traffic chaos. How MyDistrict reported, drivers can expect massive traffic jams and road closures, while Wiener Linien may have to temporarily suspend their bus services.
The first demonstration, which attracts great media interest, is entitled “Commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica” and begins at around 4:30 p.m. The route leads from Mariahilfer Straße via Babenbergerstraße, the ring to Maria-Theresien-Platz. This results in significant disruptions, particularly on the two-way line between Getreidemarkt and Burggasse and from the Opera and Schwarzenbergplatz. Lothringer Straße, Friedrichstraße and Linke Wienzeile will also be affected, which could lead to delays for many road users.
The second demonstration
At the same time, another demonstration under the motto “For the Palestinian people” is taking place in the 16th district. This begins at Yppenplatz and will run over Schellhammergasse and the Outer Hernalser Belt to Urban-Loritz-Platz. Drivers must also expect delays from Jörgerstraße. Even though both events are partly dedicated to different parts of the city, it is expected that the traffic situation will be tense throughout Vienna.
Public transport recommended
In summary, anyone traveling in Vienna on Saturday should prepare well, change their route if necessary and take advantage of public transport. Otherwise there will be very slow traffic and the risk of getting stuck in one of the demonstrations. More information about this can be found regularly on the Wiener Linien website, which reports on possible changes in real time depending on how the demos go.
