Spar-Gourmet celebrates 25 years of enjoyment: A celebration with regional delicacies!
On Friday morning there was another reason to celebrate in Vienna: Budget gourmet celebrated its 25th anniversary with a harmonious media discussion and a loving tasting of regional products at the meat market in the 1st district. A fitting atmosphere for an anniversary that underlines the history and development of this special market.
The founding story comes to life
Spar-Gourmet, which emerged from Spar's takeover of the former Meinl branches in 2000, has developed splendidly since then. Of the 93 “Meinl” stores that were taken over in Eastern Austria, 36 were converted into Spar Gourmet branches. There are now 49 Spar Gourmet stores, 39 of which are in Vienna alone. Managing director Alois Huber and store manager Manfredo Tabor, who began his career as an apprentice over ten years ago, were beaming on this special day.
Diversity of enjoyment culture
Top products and new taste experiences took on the festive character. Birgit Schrödlein, who has been responsible for product range design for 15 years, emphasized how important it is to combine high-quality food with international trends and regional manufacturers. “We focus on new concepts and regional handcrafted products,” she explained and proudly presented innovative dishes such as “Maka” ramen or the “Hut & Stiel” mushroom cultivation.
Regionality in focus
The tasting was a feast for all the senses, where, among other things, fresh bread was served with spreads from the popular Viennese restaurant “Zum Schwarzen Kameel”. Long-standing partners such as the patisserie “Landtmann” and the ham specialist “Gissinger” underline the philosophy of offering only the best from the region.
An interesting development in retail also shows that organic products are becoming increasingly popular. According to current surveys for 2023, reported Boelw, plant-based organic drinks have recorded an increase of 15 percent and now have a market share of 40 percent. This development is also reflected in the product selection of Spar-Gourmet, which attaches great importance to organic and vegan offerings.
The celebrations for Spar-Gourmet's 25th anniversary not only demonstrate the tradition of the house, but also show the lively development in Viennese gourmet culture. Here’s to many more years full of fine delicacies!
