Dog zone on Leberweg: drinking fountain and dog waste bags planned!

In the Simmering district, we are currently working hard to address the concerns of the dog-friendly population. During the last district council meeting, a resolution proposed by the SPÖ condemning the theft of rainbow flags in the 11th district was impressively adopted, but with a lone vote from the FPÖ against it. This shows once again that local concerns in Vienna can certainly generate polarity. But it's not just the flags that are a topic of conversation, the well-being of our four-legged friends is also very important.

There is currently a lot to discuss, especially in the dog zone on Leberweg. An application to build a drinking fountain was submitted here, but it was postponed to the Environment Committee. An existing drinking fountain is located about a hundred meters away between a playground and a sports facility, which can lead to conflicts between dogs, children and those involved in sports. This concern will be particularly discussed in light of the upcoming hearing on July 15th.

Safety and equipment in dog areas

The dog zones in Vienna are a central issue for many dog owners. Loud District Journal Dog zones offer an indispensable opportunity to satisfy the dogs' need for exercise. Here the four-legged friends are allowed to romp around in fenced areas without muzzles - a welcome break for everyone involved.

Several aspects are crucial for the ideal design of a dog zone: The offer should include sufficient space, secure fencing, shady retreats and of course water dispensers in order to take the dogs' needs into account. The tried and tested rules also include that dog owners must ensure that they clean up their animals' droppings immediately and keep listed dogs on a leash. A Code of Conduct is easy to see in most zones.

  • Empfohlene Hundezonen:

How important these facilities are is also reflected in the feedback from residents who have recently complained about the inadequate lighting situation in the park on Leberweg. There is a definite need for action here, especially for safety in winter.

Participate and make suggestions

For anyone interested in improving Simmering, the invitation to submit ideas is a welcome opportunity. Suggestions can be conveniently sent by email simmering@neos.eu be sent.

Overall, the last meeting shows that the topics of citizen participation and the needs of our four-legged friends are being taken seriously and that there is definitely progress towards better equipment in the dog areas. The interaction of all factions - apart from the FPÖ - gives hope that the next meeting on July 15th will also lead to positive results.
