Manhunt in Vienna: Supermarket robbery with a weapon – police are looking for witnesses!

There is currently a search call in Vienna for an unknown man who committed a robbery in a supermarket in Simmering. On October 15th, around 5:42 p.m., the perpetrator entered the supermarket on Kopalgasse and initially left a beer can at the checkout. About eight minutes later, the same man returned and picked up a paper bag, which he placed on the conveyor belt. The employee collected both the beer can and the bag. But then the monstrous happened.

The unknown man pulled a gun out of his jacket pocket, which he covered with the paper bag, and threatened the employee. Under pressure from this threat, she gave him cash, which the man put in his pocket. At 5:51 p.m. he left the supermarket, taking both the beer can and the packed paper bag with him. The employee stood guard and immediately called the police. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office is asking for relevant information about the perpetrator, whose description fits a man between the ages of 30 and 35 and who is around 190 cm tall. He was wearing a green jacket. For information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator, call 01-31310-57210. There is also a presumption of innocence for the man depicted

Background to crime in Austria

Such attacks are not an isolated incident. The Police crime statistics (PKS) provides valuable data on the development of crime in Austria. Since 2001, all reported cases have been registered electronically and are used for strategic planning of police measures. The PKS helps to improve the fight against crime by supporting both preventive and repressive methods.

However, the PKS is only as good as the reporting behavior of the population and the intensity of police controls. Legal changes can also influence the numbers. A comprehensive look at crime in Austria therefore requires an examination over several years and the consideration of social phenomena.

Criminal police measures and the importance of the search

The ongoing security reports issued by Federal Ministry of the Interior and that Federal Ministry of Justice are created, provide information about current developments. These reports help authorities adapt to changes and new challenges in fighting crime.

It is now crucial for the Vienna police to find the perpetrator quickly. Together with the population, the chances of solving the crime are increased. Communication and the exchange of information via social media can play an important role in this.
