Neubauer students develop exciting city challenge for better health!

Happy togetherness and creative ideas were the focus today when around 50 students from the Neubaugasse middle school and the Im Zentrum Burggasse secondary school presented their newly developed City Challenge tours from Vienna Health Promotion (WiG). The opening tour took place in the beautiful Josef Strauss Park, where the young developers were awarded certificates for their efforts. As ots.at reports, this exciting project aims to familiarize young people with the topic of health in a playful way and at the same time promote team spirit and creativity.

Deputy district head Mag.a Isabelle Uhl expressly supported the free participation offer and invited people to take part in the tours in Vienna's districts. The City Challenge tours can be booked free of charge until October 2025 and last around two hours. They include puzzles, estimation questions and movement exercises that the young people have to master in small groups. They are accompanied by trained people and use a navigation app to find their way around the neighborhood.

The City Challenge tours

The tours are offered in 12 districts of Vienna and can be carried out all year round, regardless of weather conditions. They not only support the health of the participants, but also promote social participation among young people. The [wig.or.at] emphasizes that the “Do it yourself” tours enable schools and extracurricular youth facilities to explore exciting places and leisure activities in their own district. Participation requires snacks and the free “Actionbound” app, which can be downloaded on a tablet or smartphone. Participants must also scan the corresponding QR code to start the tour.

The City Challenge tours fit well into the current context of health promotion among children and young people. A recently published participation atlas from the Berlin Institute for Population and Development shows that the realities of young people's lives depend heavily on where they live and have an influence on educational opportunities and social participation. This information corresponds to the findings from the health promotion initiative, as reported by gesundheitliche-opportunitygleichheit.de.

Networking schools, youth facilities and health promotion in Vienna is an important step towards creating equal opportunities and supporting all children and young people in Vienna so that they can grow up healthy. Programs like the City Challenge make a valuable contribution to health promotion, which not only brings joy to young people, but also sensitizes them to important issues.
