World record attempt: Herrenberg wants to create the largest living wind turbine!

On June 17, 2025, something exciting will happen in the Herrenberg region. On the occasion of a record attempt that is unique in the world, at least 261 people want to form a living wind turbine on Sunday, June 29th at the Herrenberg festival site. This extraordinary approach was launched by the citizens' initiative (BI) Schwanzwind and aims to send a strong signal for the expansion of wind power as a clean and cost-effective energy source. How szbz.de reported, the organizers are aiming to surpass the current record, which was set by the Austrian IG Windkraft on Vienna's Heldenplatz in 2017.

The experiment begins at 3:00 p.m., after a colorful information and cultural program that starts at 1:00 p.m. In this event, several hundred people will work together to recreate a wind turbine and run it synchronously to simulate the movement of the rotor blades. The whole event takes place on the Herrenberg festival meadow, Jahnweg 71083 in Baden-Württemberg and promises not only top sporting performances, but also a big family celebration with live music, food and drink.

A strong and independent alliance

The citizens' initiative Schwanzwind has joined forces with other supporters, including WindkraftBB and ProWindkraft Neckar-Alb, to form this project. Interestingly, they appear independent of political parties. How windkraftbb.de reported, they have even ruled out the possibility of groups that counteract democratic goals and social cohesion attending the event.

This event could be an important step in the right direction, especially in the Neckar-Alb region, where there is a high number of objections against planned wind power areas. Loud tagesschau.de 440,000 objections were collected against wind power projects alone, which shows that a lot of persuasion is needed in the region to promote the vision of a sustainable energy future. The record attempt could not only provide new impetus, but also give the dialogue about wind power a positive turn.

With an exciting supporting program and community action, the citizens' initiative Schwanzwind hopes to mobilize many people and at the same time raise awareness of the need for wind power projects in the region. The question remains whether the event can not only set a new world record, but also strengthen society's understanding of renewable energies. What is certain is that the anticipation for June 29th is already noticeable and many visitors are looking forward to the event.
