Silvia Janković leaves the office: Looking back in review
Margareten, Österreich - Silvia Janković takes stock as district leader in Margareten after five years. On June 10, 2025, she will officially be handed over to Michael Luxenberger by the Margaretner Greens. For Janković, who grew up in the 5th district and has lived here for 30 years, her term was a real “success story”. She proudly looks back on numerous projects that she initiated in her time.
The most important achievements are the redesign of Reinprechtsdorfer Straße and the expansion of the bicycle -friendly infrastructure. The modernization of over 10,000 square meters of green spaces is also one of the highlights of their term. The visibility of women was particularly important to her: the naming of the Barbara Prammer Park and the Friederike Mayröcker Hof testified to their commitment to more equality. But the kindergarten at Bacherplatz also benefited from a comprehensive renovation and expansion project.
Review of challenges and success
In her time, Janković not only fought for a blooming neighborhood, but also faced challenges such as the Corona crisis, inflation and subway construction. Despite these difficulties, she feels supported by the district residents. "If the election had gained a hundred percent," said Janković, she sees herself as a favorite for another term due to the support of the population. However, she felt the SPÖ's decision to set up a new top candidate as a severe blow.
Where is the way for Janković going? Even if she will not take part in the municipal council or district council, she plans to stay politically active, especially in the women's organization of the SPÖ. Your goal remains to bring your knowledge and experiences in a new way for Vienna and to continue working, especially in the field of school and education.
sustainability and citizen participation
Janković is particularly important to improve educational opportunities for young people. Programs such as the children's and youth parliament promote democratic participation and anchoring diversity in local communities. There are also initiatives to improve public space, with the aim of making Margareten Future Fit in terms of climate adaptation and residential construction.
The other planned projects includes greening the Straussgasse and the redesign of the shy park, which should make a valuable contribution to the quality of life of the residents. Despite the challenges, Janković looks into the future with confidence and hopes for the continuation of her projects by her successor.
