Rathaus Wien, 1010 Wien, Österreich - On June 4, 2025, the Vienna town hall in the Arkadenhof beamed particularly brightly, because here the festive awarding of the "Wiener Wine Prize 2025" took place. A total of 13 wines from 390 submissions of 57 wine -growing companies were awarded. In his speech, Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) emphasized the immense importance of Vienna viticulture for the region and how much he is rooted in the culture of the city while honored the award winners. Among the guests were also climate councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky and the wine princess Anna Langes and wine queen Katharina Beranek, who all highlighted the diversity and quality of the Viennese wine.

The competition for the best wines was anything but unproblematic. The weather was difficult for the winegrowers this year, the challenges ranged from an early grape harvest to damage caused by storm. Nevertheless, the companies bravely wrestled for the coveted awards and the result is impressive. The mixed sentence for which Vienna is known in particular was the most frequently submitted category this year with 109 wines. This was followed by green Veltliner, Riesling and White Burgundy varieties such as Chardonnay and Muskateller.

The products from 2024, which was characterized by a hot summer and an extraordinary natural event, present themselves as ripe, fruity and pleasant in the acidity, which is optimistic. Katharina Beranek also praised the committed young winegrowers who continue the tradition of Viennese viticulture and bring a breath of fresh air to the scene.
