Vienna is celebrating: Christmas market with Herzerlbaum starts on November 14th!
It's very Christmassy in Vienna! On Friday, November 14th, the traditional Christmas market on Rathausplatz opens its doors and promises a festive atmosphere and romantic moments until December 26th. One of the highlights is the lovingly designed Herzerl tree, which was ceremoniously illuminated by Mayor Michael Ludwig on Tuesday evening. From nightfall, a glowing heart will fly from the top of the town hall tower directly to the heart tree - a beautiful sight for lovers and market visitors.
In total, visitors can expect almost 100 stands, including 20 new stands compared to last year, which provides a breath of fresh air. The operators were selected following a public tender process, with the focus being on quality and environmental friendliness My district reported. Another eye-catcher is the majestic Rathausplatz spruce, which is 28 meters high and weighs 4.6 tons and is decorated with around 1,000 balls and 2,000 lights.
Diversity and inclusion in focus
The Vienna Christmas market not only shines with its atmospheric attractions, but also focuses on inclusion. Punch bowls in Braille are available for all visitors and there are special barrier-free entrances. Like the official press Vienna underlines, this ensures that everyone can enjoy the festive atmosphere.
From November 14th to December 21st there will be restrictions on tram traffic at Rathausplatz on certain days. In addition, coaches will not be allowed to enter the inner city on Advent Saturdays, with certain exceptions. In this way, the city shows that the protection of visitors is the top priority, even when there are large crowds.
Leisure enjoyment and safety
In addition to the Christmas market, guests can look forward to the Ice Dream, which will remain open until January 6, 2026. This huge ice surface of around 3,000 square meters can be used daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers special times for kindergartens and schools. In combination with the traditional Christmas tree from Tyrol, the ice dream turns the town hall square into a real winter wonderland.
Young and old alike can also look forward to an international Advent singing event in Vienna City Hall, where 85 choirs and over 2,600 choristers will provide contemplative sounds over the four Advent weekends. A unique experience that is guaranteed to increase the anticipation of Christmas.
With a comprehensive security concept designed in coordination with the blue light organizations, visitors can safely immerse themselves in the festive season. The Vienna Christkindlmarkt is not only a place for giving and celebrating, but also an important part of city life, attracting people from all over the world year after year and is regularly ranked as one of the best Christmas markets in the world.
