Five dogs rescued after cruel abandonment in Vienna – Help now!
In a touching case of animal rescue, three newborn puppies and their mother dog were saved in Vienna on November 11, 2025. Animal rights activists discovered one of the little rascals in a cardboard box in Floridsdorf, while two other puppies were found defenseless outdoors and immediately taken to the animal shelter. There was great concern for the animals, especially since the mother dog and another pup were found in the same area two days after the first pup. This means that a total of four dogs are housed in the animal shelter and are now being lovingly cared for, reports MeinBezirk.
What was worrying, however, was that the mother dog was unable to care for her little puppies due to the great stress. But hope remains, because the puppies are currently bottle-fed and appear lively and stable. Every year, over 50 young dogs come to the animal shelter in Vösendorf looking for loving new homes.
Looking for names for the little four-legged friends
Another bright spot in this touching story is the search for name ideas for the two female and one male puppies as well as the mother dog. Tierschutz Austria calls on all animal lovers to submit creative suggestions. Those interested can share their ideas via social media or by email info@tierschutz-austria.at send. The selected names will be presented soon, according to those responsible.
Behind such rescue operations there is often a depressing picture: animal rights activists repeatedly report cruel keeping conditions and violations of basic animal protection laws. The animal protection law in Austria, like that in Germany, is a fundamentally important step towards protecting our fellow creatures, but it has its shortcomings. Many individual provisions that relate to vertebrates such as dogs or cats leave essential aspects unregulated or are worded unclearly. Important demands from the animal protection community therefore focus on the creation of a collective action law to enable animal protection associations to fight for the welfare of animals in court. This would be particularly relevant considering that injuries to animals can be prosecuted both under the Animal Protection Act and as damage to property, as Tierschutzbund makes clear.
In the coming days we can hope for many creative name suggestions, while at the same time we must not lose sight of the dramatic situation of our four-legged friends. Everyone can do their part, be it through a donation, a new home or simply by reporting animal cruelty. Our animal friends deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
