On June 4, 2025, 1. USC Raiffeisen Klosterneuburg transformed the water of Happyland into a true spectacle. The opponent, the Wiener Sport-Club (WSC), didn't have the slightest chance against the highly motivated Klosterneuburgers. With an impressive 29:6, the team put in an outstanding performance and thus more than clearly confirmed their role as favorites. The first quarter ended 6:2 for Klosterneuburg, and at halftime it was 13:5. In the last quarter the team increased the score even further with a furious 9-0. Coach Amon Bhatia was more than satisfied with the performance of his charges and noted that all the players played, which further strengthened the team dynamic.

After this impressive victory, Klosterneuburg can now look forward to the next challenge: the Austrian Cup, which will take place in Innsbruck on June 7th and 8th, 2025. This tournament will show whether the team can hold its own against other top teams. Exciting encounters are expected, especially against IW Vienna, which is scheduled for June 17, 2025, and against Baden BAC on June 20, 2025.

A masterpiece

What a season! Klosterneuburg has won the title in the Regionalliga East again after ten years. In a home game they had already defeated the Vienna sports club 19:8 and remained unbeaten throughout the season. This impressive record speaks volumes about the skill and teamwork of the players. Amon Bhatia expressed his pride in winning the title and thanked everyone involved, including players, referees and helpers who made this success possible. What is particularly noteworthy is that the last game attracted more spectators than many Bundesliga or cup games in recent years - a real sign of the renewed enthusiasm for the sport of water polo in Klosterneuburg.

Water polo: a sport with history

But it wasn't just Klosterneuburg that excelled: water polo has a long tradition. As the oldest Olympic team sport, the game debuted in Paris in 1900 and was the first team sport in the Olympic program, before football. Austria is also part of water polo history with its clubs and passionate players. The water polo league in Germany, the highest division in water polo, was established in 1970 - since then many teams have demonstrated their skills, including famous club names such as Wasserfreunde Spandau 04, who are record champions with 38 titles.

In the Thuringian State League, for example, five teams play for the championship. But water polo is also exciting on an international level - Hungary is the most successful nation with a total of 9 gold medals at the Olympic Games. The legendary “Blood Game in Melbourne” between Hungary and the Soviet Union in 1956 remains the site of the best water polo history.

Klosterneuburg and water polo as a form of sport are not only important in the region, but also beyond its borders. The 1. USC Raiffeisen Klosterneuburg impressively shows how successful and exciting this sport can be. Whether in the cup or in the upcoming games – the fans can be excited. The next games promise a lot of action and team spirit!
