Car thieves strike again: chaos in Vienna favorites!

There are currently headlines in Vienna that are scaring drivers. Road crime appears to have reached new levels as more and more vehicle owners fall victim to burglaries.

The incident that occurred last Sunday in Gutheil-Schoder-Gasse in Vienna-Favoriten was particularly explosive. Here, a BMW F32 Coupé was not only damaged, but literally destroyed. Enes, a 25-year-old car owner (name changed), found his vehicle with two broken side windows and a ransacked interior. “I have to deal with damage amounting to several thousand euros,” says Enes, stunned. His personal property, including important documents, was also stolen during the search. This is not the first incident of this kind, as a taxi was also affected in the area, as Heute reports.

Young people on the prowl

The situation continues to worsen. On the night of April 23, 2025, passers-by observed two young people breaking into a car in Vienna-Döbling. The two had broken the window of a parked vehicle and were searching the interior. When the police arrived, they fled in different directions. However, a 14-year-old with Ukrainian nationality was arrested. During the search, officers found a balaclava and a knife, which were said to have come from a second vehicle. These details not only illustrate the audacity of the perpetrators, but also the seriousness of the situation, as 5 Minutes describes.

In addition, a picture was discovered on the arrestee's cell phone showing another teenager in a damaged vehicle. Using the GPS data, investigators were able to establish possible connections to other burglaries. While the police continue to search for the second suspect, the Vienna public prosecutor's office has decided to report the 14-year-old, who is at large.

The police are staying on the ball

The ongoing burglaries and the associated anger of affected drivers are affecting the entire city. The police are called upon and have already intensified their investigations. Car break-ins are apparently booming and the authorities are keen to put a stop to the perpetrators.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop. Drivers in Vienna should be vigilant and pay particular attention to their vehicles. Further information and reports on the incidents can also be found on ORF Vienna.
