New bus lines in Hietzing: Faster connections from August 2025!

The Hietzing district is facing an exciting transport transition: From August 25, 2025, there will be comprehensive changes to bus routes 53A, 54A and 54B. These innovations aim to improve the accessibility of several neighborhoods and thus make daily commuting easier. How meinkreis.at reports, Wolfrathplatz will become the central transfer stop for the new line network.

Line 53A will not only be extended, but will also run from Hütteldorf train station via the U4 station Ober St. Veit to the new terminus Stock im Weg. This enables a direct connection to residential and school locations as well as to the allotment garden associations and the popular Hörndlwald recreation area. Lines 54A and 54B are also undergoing significant restructuring: In the future, both lines will run via Wolfrathplatz, which will significantly simplify transfer connections.

Improved connections and shorter waiting times

Line 54A will also provide a connection to Hörndlwald, while the Reischergasse stop will be renamed. The new route of line 54B ensures that only St. Veiter Tor is served. By condensing intervals on heavily used route sections, waiting times will be shorter, especially at peak times. This finely tuned system is also intended to improve space and thus benefit passengers.

The resolution of the previous circuits leads to clearly defined lines with clear start and end points. This should make it easier for many passengers to orient themselves in the Hietzinger bus network. District leader Johanna Zinkl and her deputy Thomas Gerstbach are already expressing positive expectations about the innovations. They are convinced that the new structures will help to optimize mobility in the Hietzing district and thus better meet the needs of the population.
