Construction work in November: That's why trains between Salzburg and Tyrol are canceled!

As the ÖBB reports, extensive construction work by Deutsche Bahn between Salzburg and Tyrol is scheduled for November 2025. These serve to improve the rail infrastructure and secure the future of rail transport in the region. From November 3rd to 30th there will be several partial closures, which will particularly affect long-distance and night traffic. The total closure will be particularly noticeable from November 14th, around 9 p.m., to November 19th, around 1 p.m. During this time there are no train connections between Salzburg and Wörgl or between Salzburg and Innsbruck. Those who rely on rail must expect diversions and longer travel times.

For travelers this means that there are major changes to the timetable. Trains are canceled in both directions between Salzburg main station and Wörgl main station. So that no one is left high and dry, a rail replacement service (SEV) will be set up with buses between Salzburg and Wörgl as well as Salzburg and Innsbruck. Among other things, the RJX connections are affected: For example, the RJX 662 from Vienna Airport to Bregenz only runs to Salzburg and has a connection to the replacement buses.

Construction work and restrictions

The construction work will be carried out in several phases. During the individual partial closures - specifically from November 3rd to 5th, November 8th to 11th and the major closure between November 14th and 19th - there will be various adjustments to the timetable. Here is an overview of the key changes:

There are also diversions for the popular travel destination Munich: The RJX connections between Budapest/Vienna and Munich are redirected via Passau Hbf, although Salzburg Hbf is not served. The connections from Graz and Klagenfurt to Munich and Frankfurt/Münster also partially end in Salzburg Hbf or start from there.

Travel planning and alternatives

Travelers are advised to keep a close eye on current timetables and look for alternatives. ÖBB recommends reading the information on the website before traveling presse-oebb.at or oebb.at to consult.
With the right information in your luggage, nothing stands in the way of a relaxed trip despite the construction work!
