Viennese hikers conquer all Bim lines – adventures on 18 routes!
Vienna not only impresses with its historical treasures and cozy atmosphere, but also with impressive hiking trails that attract both locals and tourists. Andreas Kaschik has launched a very special project. The product developer in a bakery who spends his nights baking dedicates his days to a different kind of city trip - he walks the Vienna tram lines. The passionate hiker has already explored 18 lines, including lines 60, 41, 6 and 71.
His first hike on line 60 began at Westbahnhof and ended after about 13 kilometers in Rodaun, taking around three hours to complete the route. Future hikes on lines 1 and 2 are already in the starting blocks, because Kaschik has set himself the goal of exploring all 28 tram lines in Vienna in the truest sense of the word. “It’s fascinating how many stories and details you discover when you walk the routes,” explains Kaschik, adding that he plans every hike down to the last detail. He not only takes into account the course of the line, but also sights and different city districts.
Beginners in the world of Vienna's hiking trails
Vienna actually has a lot to offer in terms of hiking trails. The city hiking trails in the green belt are well signposted and easily accessible by public transport. There you can find, for example, the city hiking trail 1 - Kahlenberg or the city hiking trail 9 - Prater. An app provides a stress-free overview of the routes. It shows exact routes, allows you to show and hide the city hiking trails and follows the hiker's current position.
Things also get exciting when it comes to the special features of nature in Vienna. Local residents can often observe rodents that have masterfully adapted to city life. These smaller ears and reduced tooth heights are not uncommon and reflect urban living conditions, as the records in Geo show.
An unforgettable elephant cocktail
A special highlight of his hikes was the tour along the 10 line, during which Kaschik appeared in a unicorn costume - a really creative idea that attracted particular attention, especially on Shrove Tuesday. On his YouTube and Facebook channels he shares all his experiences and encourages others to discover Vienna from new perspectives.
With over 18 tram lines experienced, Kaschik has already overcome the first challenges, but the adventure is far from over. With the new lines 12 and 27 being planned, he will certainly be lacing up his hiking boots here soon. Vienna still has more to offer than just the classic sights - the city has it all and is waiting to be explored step by step.
