Experience Vienna in a new way: The Walking Week starts with exciting tours!

The Vienna Walking Week starts today, July 19, 2025, and invites all Viennese to rediscover their city. Under the motto “Tourism for locals”, the Viennese collective Whoosh would like to appeal primarily to citizens with this sixth edition of the event and help them gain new perspectives on Vienna beyond the tourist clichés. The week lasts until July 26th and offers a varied program with a total of 17 tours, including many new and some adventurous highlights.

The opening program is promising: a walk through the outer part of Ottakring begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a street art tour through Neubau at 4:00 p.m. If you're looking forward to the nighttime hours, you can go on a night walk from the Praterstern at 10 p.m. The best part? You do not have to register to take part and no app is required. The cost is 10 euros per walk, children under 14 go free. If you want to do more, you can get a weekly pass for 50 euros, which gives access to all tours.

Diverse tours for every curiosity

Each day of Walking Week features special themes ranging from mental health to historical and cultural insights to architectural diversity. For example, the “Mental Health & the City” tour is on the program on July 20th, followed by “30 Years Before Sunrise – How Swiss is Vienna?” on July 21st. Anyone who wants to take a new look at the local metropolis will get their money's worth on the tours. Even the sensitive topic of vegan food will be covered with a “Worldwide Food Tour” on July 23rd.

An absolute highlight is the five-day organic wine hike on Bisamberg, which will delight wine lovers and nature lovers alike. There is also “Go to Work Day,” which starts early at 6:00 a.m. In doing so, the organizers are setting an example for the promotion of walking, which is highlighted in the city as an ecologically valuable alternative to driving.

An invitation to discovery

The concept of this Walking Week aims to enable locals to experience Vienna as an exciting holiday destination by providing new perspectives on this multi-faceted city. Vienna is the eighth most visited city in Europe, and the organizers want to encourage Viennese people to rediscover their own homeland and avoid clichés. The philosophy behind it is to promote fun and new experiences in your own city.
