Vienna through changing times: A family exhibition full of art and history!
From August 20, 2025, art lovers can look forward to an exciting event in the Vienna art scene. The family exhibition “Vienna through the ages: yesterday – today – tomorrow” opens at ART.WALLENSTEINPLATZ, presenting the work of Monika Schrottmeyer and her family. By September 18, 2025, an impressive arc will be created between “old” and “new” Vienna, which the family will interpret in a creative way. MyDistrict reports that the exhibition is thematically embedded with a reading by Monika Schrottmeyer, who has written an essay that sheds light on the development of the city since the 1920s.
The exhibition brings together the artistic perspectives of four family members: Monika Schrottmeyer herself will read, while her son-in-law Paul-Stephan Binder will present his impressive black and white photographs of modernist architecture. With a completely different approach, the youngest artist in the group, Marie Bolart, who is only 15 years old, will create the connection between past and present in her drawing. The show is rounded off by paintings by Alexander Rudolf+, whose estate includes historical oil paintings and watercolors with old views of Vienna.
An insight into the art history of Vienna
Monika Schrottmeyer, who is known as an author and local councilor for her more than 35 years of independence and commitment to Viennese culture, wrote in her essay "Vienna in changing times. Yesterday - today - tomorrow." not only the art and culture scene, but also topics such as education, health and social housing. Her novels, including “THAT WAS IT THEN ALSO” and “ZEITENSPRÜNGE”, also show her feeling for the development of Vienna and the people in it.
In this exhibition, the influence of Viennese art around 1900, which also plays an important role in the Vienna Museum, becomes clear. This institution's collection looks at Viennese art spanning several centuries. Vienna Museum places particular emphasis on important artists such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, who are known for their impressive works. The present is also represented in the museum's collection, and with more than 5,000 artists, contemporary art is one of the most important collections in Austria.
The venue, the ART.WALLENSTEINPLATZ, offers enough space for the fascinating works that will be presented during this time. In addition, the cultural program will continue after the Schrottmeyer exhibition: on September 20th, those interested can visit a jewelry presentation by Tanja Gerlich, followed by a photo art vernissage by Natascha Auenhammer. Gallery Studio 38 also offers an insight into Evamaria Karpfen's current exhibition, which combines reality, magic and fantasy - another highlight for all art lovers!
The interplay of past and present, which is impressively showcased in the upcoming family exhibition, is not only a homage to the city, but also to the artistic Schrottmeyer family, whose creative work makes a valuable contribution to the Viennese cultural scene.
