Murder in a Fiaker: Haller solves deadly mystery in blind-friendly art!

An exciting crime adventure that is prepared for both the eyes and the ears - this is how one could describe the latest episode of the Vienna crime thriller “Blindly Investigated,” which was broadcast under the title “Death in the Fiaker” on July 4, 2025. The ex-commissioner Haller, played by Philipp Hochmair, visits an art exhibition with his sister that is all about accessibility. The curator Florence Kasumba has provided tactile guidance systems and information in Braille so that every visitor can experience the works of art up close. This makes the crime thriller not only a visual but also a tactile experience.

But amidst the relaxing atmosphere, it soon becomes clear that something sinister is afoot. Haller recognizes a murder case when the banker Romanus Schachner becomes the victim of a cyanide poison attack. He identifies the murder by an eerie “almond smell” – a typical indication of the poison. In the spirit of classic whodunit, Haller comes across several possible suspects, including a blackmailer, a defrauded customer and a drug dealer. The tension rises when Haller's friend and chauffeur Niko, played by Andreas Guenther, goes undercover and takes on the role of a horse-drawn carriage driver in a fictional bar called “Koberer”.

Under the radar

Through clever questioning and social interaction, Niko gains the trust of waitress Resi, played by Emily Cox, and her father, Karl Fischer. During his research in Vienna's underworld, he not only discovers bank debts, but also drugs in the murder victim's safe. This turns out to be a crucial clue that puts the investigative duo on the trail of the crime.

A nerve-wracking showdown in the Vienna sewers finally reveals the truth and leads the investigators to the background of the crime. The episode impressively shows how local conditions can be integrated into the narrative while at the same time highlighting the topic of inclusion in art. You can also follow these gripping investigations in the upcoming repeat of the previous case “Buried Alive” on July 10th at 8:15 p.m. The investigative duo Haller and Niko have already celebrated respectable successes in two more episodes, and fans can look forward to six more exciting cases.

Art and crime in the Sissi myth

The series “Blindly Investigated” knows how to link criminal cases with historical and cultural elements. An example of this is the episode “The Naked Empress”, which deals with the Sissi myth and focuses on an ominous curse. The focus is on the descendant of the court photographer Charlotte Binder, who inherits a mysterious photographic plate that shows an image of Empress Sissi. Anyone who looks at this picture dies shortly afterwards. Here the investigators are once again challenged to follow the traces of the curse-laden image - an exciting mix of historical mysticism and contemporary crime, which is what makes the series so appealing.
