Simmering Cultural Association is facing bankruptcy: Shocking financial situation!

In a worrying move, the Simmering cultural association plans to file for bankruptcy with the commercial court. The club's chairman, Franz Nauschnigg, confirmed this step and emphasized that a draft application for a restructuring process without self-administration is already available. The club is currently facing real financial difficulties.

The numbers speak for themselves: the 2023 annual financial statements show a negative equity balance of over 150,000 euros. Nauschnigg admitted that the exact debt cannot currently be quantified, but estimated that between 35 and 40 creditors could be affected. Another painful point is the failure to receive a planned funding of 40,000 euros from the district budget, which was urgently needed.

Financial difficulties and responsibility

The club's financial situation has deteriorated rapidly. The loss for the past year rose from around 40,000 euros to over 210,000 euros. At the same time, the balance sheet loss for 2023 has grown to more than 240,000 euros. Nauschnigg blames the former chairwoman Gerlinde Heil directly for the unfortunate situation. However, she emphatically rejected the allegations and explained that the club was already in a problematic financial situation when she took over the office.

Particularly alarming is an anonymous letter that was sent to public authorities and contains allegations such as delaying bankruptcy and breach of trust. Heil even went to the police to clear himself of these allegations and the case was dropped. She also emphasized that she had invested over 17,000 euros in the club from her private assets.

Outlook on the financial exams

The Vienna City Audit Office will examine the cultural association's finances; the results of this audit are expected in the summer of 2026. The administration of Schloss Neubuilding, which is currently being taken over by the association, is also in jeopardy. A new call for tenders for this administrative task is already planned for the end of the year.

Another factor in this complex situation is MA 34 – Building Management, which does not want to comment on unpaid rent due to ongoing legal proceedings. Until the circumstances are fully clarified, the presumption of innocence applies to everyone involved.

The difficulties faced by the Simmering Cultural Association show how quickly financial crises can arise in the club world and that comprehensive discussions about responsibility and guilt are necessary. The coming months will be crucial for the future of the club.
