A profound change is taking place in the Simmeringer SPÖ: Rudi Kaske has withdrawn from politics and given up his post as district party chairman. At the recent district conference, Heinrich Himmer was elected as his successor with over 97 percent of the votes. Himmer, former education director of Vienna and member of the National Council since October 2024, sees his new responsibility as an opportunity to advance the SPÖ's political goals in Simmering.

In his first speech as chairman, Himmer emphasized the importance of cohesion in the party and spoke out in favor of affordable housing and increased social infrastructure. It is particularly important to him to take a clear stance against hatred and intolerance. Jörg Neumayer, the state party secretary of the SPÖ in Vienna, did not miss the opportunity to thank Kaske for his years of work, while at the same time congratulating Himmer on his election.

A look at Heinrich Himmer

Heinrich Himmer was born on December 24, 1978 in Vienna and has since become a prominent face of the SPÖ. After his school career in Vienna-Simmering, he attended the commercial academy and graduated with his Matura in 1998. After studying business education, which he completed in 2008, he initially gained experience as a human resources manager and teacher at a commercial academy. In 2017, he took over the management of the city school board for Vienna and was shortly afterwards promoted to director of education.

The turning point in his career came when he was elected to the National Council for the SPÖ in 2024. Since March 2025 he has also been the area spokesman for education and science in the SPÖ parliamentary club. Himmer's commitment to education is evident and he brings a wealth of experience from his previous positions to his new role.

Rudi Kaske, who held the district party office for many years, would like to thank the officials for their successful election work in the past. His withdrawal represents a turning point for the SPÖ in Simmering, and Himmer says he intends to continue the positive development under Kaske's leadership.
