Football fever in Simmering: Home game” for kids starts now!
An exciting football project for the little ones will soon be launched in the 11th district of Vienna. Under the name "Heimspiel", Wiener Wohnen is launching a project in cooperation with SOS Children's Villages that offers young Simmeringers the opportunity to look at the round leather and be active themselves. It starts on June 24th and the football goals are available every Tuesday until September 23rd to provide children aged 4 to 10 with a fun leisure activity.
The aim of the project is to offer young football players an informal football experience in the Thürnlhof and Salvadore-Allende-Hof community buildings. MeinBezirk.at reports that no prior registration is necessary. So the kids can just show up from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., play along and put their football skills to the test. The basic features include a mobile stadium with spectator benches and two soccer goals that can be set up quickly.
Support from the community
The project is strongly supported by the district leadership under Thomas Steinhart (SPÖ) and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ), who emphasize the initiative as a valuable leisure opportunity. Not only is the fun of playing encouraged, but the interaction and coexistence of the children in the neighborhood is also strengthened. The “home game” is also an important component in making it easier for children to access play, especially in times when public playgrounds are becoming increasingly rare. SOS Children's Villages added that the project will “recapture the scope in their living environment”.
Education, play and rights
The right to play and leisure is enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly in Article 31. This article emphasizes that every child has the right to rest, leisure and age-appropriate leisure activities. These rights are important not only for children's development, but also for their well-being and social integration. Children's Rights Convention.info clarifies that access to play areas is crucial to promote children's development and ensure cultural participation.
Overall, the “home game” already shows great potential to improve the quality of life of the kids in Simmering and to awaken the joy of football. The little athletes can look forward to exciting rounds and lots of team spirit.
