Armed robbery in Billa: perpetrator stole cash in Simmering!

In the eleventh district of Vienna, more precisely in a Billa branch on Kopalgasse, an attack occurred in the late afternoon that stirred the minds of the residents. At 5:42 p.m. the perpetrator entered the supermarket, first took a beer can from the shelf and left it at the checkout. Eight minutes later he appeared again and this time he was more brutal.

With a paper bag in his hand, he placed it on the conveyor belt. While the cashier was collecting the beer can and the bag, the unknown man suddenly pulled a gun out of his right jacket pocket, covered it with the paper bag and threatened the cashier by demanding that she give him cash. She complied with the request and put several banknotes in his pocket. The perpetrator left the supermarket again at 5:51 p.m. This time span of just a few minutes ensured that the employee acted quickly and immediately informed the police after the attack. The incident has brought the security situation in the area into focus and encouraged the authorities to investigate more quickly, as Weekend reports.

Previous raids in focus

This attack is reminiscent of a tragic incident from 2016, when a police officer was killed during a raid on a Billa branch in Vienna-Penzing. In this context, a 64-year-old lawyer was suspected of acting as an accomplice of the perpetrator after he hosted the suspected robber, a 49-year-old Bosnian, in his apartment and drove him to the crime scene. But after six weeks in custody, the Vienna public prosecutor's office determined that the lawyer was not involved in the aggravated robbery and that there was no evidence against him. This led to a decision to discontinue the case, which was recently officially confirmed by the public prosecutor's spokeswoman Nina Bussek, among others, as reported by OE24.

The repeated attacks on supermarkets are viewed with great concern by the population because they question security in everyday life. After the attack at the Billa branch, the police announced more intensive surveillance in the area in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The discussion about security and order in Vienna remains lively. While the relevant authorities are now working to investigate the current attack, they are appealing to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
