New audio guide: Discover Vienna's religious diversity for free!

Vienna is a melting pot of cultures and religions, and now there is a new way to explore this diversity. The newly created audio guide entitled “Exploring Vienna’s Religious Tapestry” invites you to explore the city’s religious landscape. Developed by a team of theologians and religious scholars at the Vienna Doctoral School of Theology and Research on Religion (VDTR), the guide takes you to twenty important stations in Vienna's city center, all of which tell a piece of Vienna's rich religious history.

The tour begins at the impressive Votive Church, right next to the main building of the University of Vienna. The selection of stations is diverse and ranges from the legendary historical figure “Zum Hayden Schuss” to Judenplatz, where the first Jewish community in Vienna was located in the 13th century, to attractive places such as the Café Korb, the Jewish City Temple and the impressive St. Stephen's Cathedral. The Lutheran City Church and Café Central are also important contact points for those interested.

A free offer for everyone

The audio guide is currently free and can be downloaded online. What is particularly noteworthy is that it is currently only available in English, but this suits the wide international audience that visits the city. Those interested do not need to have any prior knowledge of religious studies - the guide is aimed at anyone who is curious about the religious facets of Vienna. Information about the audio guide is available on the website Evangelical newspaper to find.

Another exciting aspect of the audio guide is the inclusion of Buddhist, Orthodox and Islamic perspectives as well as the cult of Mithras, which has played a role in European history. At almost every station there is interesting, often unusual information that offers listeners previously unknown insights. For example, the history of Judenplatz is discussed with the anti-Semitic relief from the 15th century, which illustrates the city's complex past.

Hidden treasures and current research

The fact that Vienna is not only a city of history, but also of current research history - this is best demonstrated by this new city guide. The audio guide also addresses modern religious diversification, which has increased since the end of World War II due to migration and secularization. These developments have had a lasting impact on the city's identity and provide plenty of material for further discoveries.

The offer is rounded off by planned city tours in October, which will be announced in the coming weeks. For further details and information about the audio guide, those interested can contact VDTR turn around. The diversity of Vienna is waiting to be discovered - and with this new audio guide there are no better companions.
