A piece of Viennese ice cream culture is closing its doors: “Marcello”, the popular ice cream shop on Margaretenplatz in the 5th district, has to close after more than 25 years. Operator Markus Suk, who ran the restaurant together with his wife and father for many years, said in a short statement that it was "very likely" that "Marcello" would no longer exist in its current form and did not comment in more detail on the reasons for the closure. A note in the shop window states that the restaurant is “for rent”.

But the closure also brings hope: Suk announced that a new project is being planned at the location that will honor the tradition of the place.
