Viennese schools shine at the international chess tournament in Alterlaa!
A look into the exciting world of chess in Vienna shows that the city's future comes to life not only in art and music, but also on the chessboard. On November 7th and 8th, the 23rd international school chess tournament Vienna-Cologne-Venice-Novara took place in the Federal Realgymnasium Alterlaa. Numerous teams from Vienna and the Italian sister city Novara competed against each other and showed their skills in this competition.
The atmosphere during the tournament was particularly pleasing, and district leader Gerald Bischof (SPÖ) praised it in his speech. He not only praised the organization of the event, but also the sporting achievements of the young chess players. The referees also included well-known personalities such as Kaweh Christof and the Austrian national champion Veronika Exler.
The best teams at a glance
There were many exciting games and, above all, some outstanding placements in the various categories. The Alsergrunder Erich-Fried-Gymnasium was able to secure the challenge cup in the U-19 overall competition, while the GRG 23 achieved a respectable third place. The U-15 girls of GRG 23 even became the best women's team of the tournament and achieved fourth place overall.

| GRG 23 | 3rd place | 4th place |
This tournament is a shining example of how education and sport can come together to instill important values such as team spirit and discipline in young people. The success of our schools shows that chess skills are already highly regarded in Vienna and that a new generation of chess talents is also emerging.
The view beyond the chessboards
The importance of education and critical thinking cannot only be seen in chess. These aspects are also relevant in political and social discourses, such as in Communist manifesto, which analyzes social structures and addresses the importance of class struggles. You can see how different structures have developed since its publication in 1848 and are still being discussed.
At the same time, digital progress in the world of communication should not be underestimated. This makes it possible WhatsApp web flexible use of the platform on the computer, which is particularly advantageous for students and teachers during shared learning phases. Creating connections and sharing in groups also simplifies learning and organization.
Vienna shows itself in a colorful light of tradition, education and modernity, and even if the chess tournaments bring great success, we are perhaps only at the beginning of a complex development in the city's educational landscape.
