Vienna Architecture Prize: Dietrich Untertrifaller impresses with sustainability!

Today, the renowned architectural firm Dietrich Untertrifaller was awarded the City of Vienna Prize in the Architecture category at a celebratory event in Vienna City Hall. The office, which has been based in Bregenz since 1994, was honored for its outstanding contributions to architecture and the enrichment of cultural life in Vienna. Vienna City Councilor Kaup-Hasler was also present at the award ceremony, who underlined the importance of this award.

The architects Much Untertrifaller, Dominik Philipp and Patrick Stremler represent the office, which is best known for projects such as the expansion of Hall F of the Wiener Stadthalle and the renovation of the Volkstheater. The Brio residential building in Favoriten is also one of the awarded works. These projects impressively show how architecture contributes not only to urban development, but also to social interaction in the city.

A combination of architecture and sustainability

The Dietrich Untertrifaller office attaches great importance to sustainability and social responsibility in architecture. The partners emphasize that good architecture is created in dialogue with the location, the materials used and society. This is reflected in the award-winning projects such as the Waldorf School in Mauer, which pursues an innovative spatial concept.

“Architecture is more than just the technique of building,” says Wikipedia, which explains that the term comes from Latin and ancient Greek and is understood as the art and technique of designing and building. It's not just about the structure, but also about cultural symbols and the aesthetic representation of space.

Diversity of projects

In addition to Hall F and the Volkstheater, the office has realized other interesting projects in Vienna. These include the subsidized Brio residential building in the Neues Landgut district and buildings in Gastgebgasse, called “Kuku23”, both of which impress with their well-thought-out planning. The new musical house in the Prater is also seen as a cultural gain for the city.

  • Erweiterungsbau Halle F der Wiener Stadthalle
  • Sanierung des Volkstheaters
  • Waldorfschule Mauer
  • Wohnbauten in der Gastgebgasse („Kuku23“)
  • Neues Musicalhaus Theater im Prater
  • Geförderter Wohnbau Brio im Quartier Neues Landgut

The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, recognizes the office's achievements, which not only shape the urban landscape of Vienna, but also promote social interaction. In a world in which sustainable construction is becoming increasingly important, Dietrich Untertrifaller's approaches take on a pioneering role that could perhaps also be an incentive for other architects in the future.

Vienna sees constant development not only in architecture, but also in social engagement and art. Let us surprise you with what innovative ideas we can expect next from this dynamic architectural firm.
