New impetus in the Josefstadt: Fresh faces in the district council!

New impetus in the Josefstadt: Fresh faces in the district council!

On June 10, 2025, the time had finally come: In the old town hall, the new district representative of the 8th district, Josefstadt, was solemnly praised. For the district council, this means a gratifying generation change. Almost half of the 40 assigned seats are filled with new mandatars, while 21 experienced representatives continue to exercise their offices, which also the meinzimzirk.at reported.

The popular district head Martin Fabisch from the Greens was confirmed in his function for another five years. In his speech, he placed special emphasis on cooperation for the benefit of the Josefstadt, across party borders. His deputy Lena Köhler, also by the Greens, was confirmed in office, while Eva Krennbauer from the SPÖ is new as the second deputy.

A special note gave the forefense to the presence of city councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ), who, in the representation of Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), made the formal engagement. Also prominently represented were Judith Pühringer, Markus Reiter (both Greens), Heribert Rahdjian and Gerhard Zatlokal (SPÖ).

The local elections brought the result that the Greens with 18 mandates remain the strongest faction in the district parliament. The SPÖ follows with 7 mandates, the ÖVP can look forward to 6 seats, while the NEOS 4 mandates and the FPÖ 3 could conquer 3 mandates. The core light forms the KPÖ with 2 seats. Florian Wunsch by the Greens was elected chairman of the district council. At his side, Birgit Forgó-Feldner (Greens) acts as the first deputy, while Sanja Drazic from the SPÖ acts as the second deputy.

After the official commissioning, there was a champagne reception in the picturesque courtyard of the old town hall, which enabled the new and old mandatars to get into talking personally. The first regular meeting of the district council will take place on June 18 in the district manager of the district head and promises to put exciting topics on the agenda.

The 8th district can hope for an interesting term of office full of new faces and fresh ideas. The first switches are set - and there is definitely something in the air.
