Vienna celebrates helpers: City Councilor Novak honors volunteer work on the national holiday!
On today's national holiday, October 26, 2025, Vienna's Rathausplatz shines in the splendor of the great security festival. The city has transformed into an event hotspot that honors the variety of activities and the commitment of the volunteers. Among the guests of honor was city councilor Barbara Novak (SPÖ), who honored Vienna's helpers and the “Voluntary for Vienna” project on site. Novak emphasized the importance of teamwork and solidarity in the community in an entertaining Instagram post.
The security festival, the largest security performance show in the country, gives a deep insight into the skills of the emergency services organizations and shows the audience what valuable work they do. In addition to the aid and emergency organizations, various departments of the City of Vienna and friendly organizations are also represented to provide information about the diverse possibilities for cooperation. The official prevention institution “Helfer Wiens” provides important lectures, training courses and information materials.
Volunteering in Vienna
Another highlight of today's festival is the “Volunteer for Vienna” program, which offers around 500 opportunities for anyone who would like to get involved. In times when every helping hand counts, the “Immediate Aid Vienna” initiative also comes into play, inviting spontaneous helpers to get involved. Such initiatives emphasize the importance of strengthening the community and mobilizing support when it is urgently needed.
Of course, the national holiday is also known for numerous events and celebrations that create a close connection to the culture and history of Austria. The Viennese show once again that they not only live their traditions, but are also full of energy when it comes to helping their fellow human beings.
On the other hand, an exciting sporting event also took place: The football game between Army and Navy ended with a narrow 14-13 victory for Army. Navy had the upper hand until just before the end, but a missed field goal attempt ultimately decided the game. Army secured the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy for the first time since 1996. It's a shame for Navy, who will now have to take advantage of their opportunity again next season. Stories like these from the field show us that team spirit and determination are at stake in every competition.
Finally, today shows that Vienna is not only a center for important events, but also a place where solidarity and voluntary commitment are very important.
