Rainbow parade in Vienna: traffic jams and closures on Saturday!

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Vienna Rainbow Parade, also known as Vienna Pride, will once again create a colorful atmosphere in the city center. This event is one of the biggest highlights of the year in the capital and attracts tens of thousands of people every year to demonstrate for the rights and equality of the LGBTQIA+ community. MyDistrict reports that the program has been adapted due to the recent events in Graz.

Road users have to prepare for significant restrictions. From 8:30 a.m. the ring between the opera and Franz-Josefs-Kai will be closed. These closures will be gradually expanded and will be expected until the parade begins at 12:00 p.m. Crossing the ring is possible, but waiting times are expected. The entire two-line line as well as several important streets such as Praterstrasse, Rennweg and Währinger Strasse are particularly affected by delays. The ÖAMTC recommends a bypass via the Danube Canal, Heumarkt, Schwarzenbergplatz and Karlsplatz.

Traffic disruptions and diversions

In preparation for the large number of participants, there is also advice on diversions for vehicles heading to the airport. During traffic disruptions, access via Franz-Josefs-Kai is not possible. Instead, a large-scale bypass via the city highways and commercial quays is recommended.

  • Verzögerungen sind an folgenden Orten zu erwarten:
  • Gesamte Zweierlinie (Vordere Zollamtsstraße bis Votivkirche)
  • Untere und Obere Donaustraße
  • Praterstraße
  • Roßauer Lände
  • Rennweg
  • Prinz-Eugen-Straße
  • Wiedner Hauptstraße
  • Rechte Wienzeile
  • Burggasse
  • Lerchenfelder Straße
  • Josefstädter Straße
  • Universitätsstraße
  • Währinger Straße ab Berggasse

There can also be disruptions on the alternative routes via the belt and the A23 (southeast tangent). Vienna.at reported. The subway is touted as a recommended alternative to attend the celebrations without major delays.

The Rainbow Parade has the motto “Pride is a Demonstration” and aims to raise awareness of equality. Support for this important event also comes from the ÖAMTC, which is committed to diversity and respectful treatment of one another. Enjoy the celebrations and remember to be patient as the streets will be packed on this day!
