Young masters fascinate in the Red Salon: musical highlight in Vienna!

On June 20, 2025, from 7 p.m., a top-class musical highlight awaits us in the Red Salon of the Austrian Performing Society (OESTIG LSG). The “Young Masters” event is organized by Werner Hackl, an influential conductor, trombonist and passionate supporter of young musicians. This platform introduces talented young musicians and offers them the opportunity to showcase their skills to a wider audience.

Among the performing artists is Nelli Goncharuk, who once became known as a Russian child star and now shines as a soprano. She will perform the Laetitia aria “Steal me, sweet thief” from the opera “The Old Maid and the Thief” by Gian Carlo Menotti as well as Richard Strauss’ song “Muttertändelei”. Menotti, a renowned Italian-American composer, has distinguished himself with his catchy music and lyrical lyrics, and with 25 operas he is one of the most performed composers of the 20th century. His works are characterized by a departure from atonality and a preference for a natural rhythm, which made him a classic audience favorite.

A talent fireworks display

Also on stage are Leonce Cheng Chen-Hackel, a violinist just 9 years old, who, together with his sister Lena Cheng Chen-Hackel on the piano, presents the talented compositions of Mozart and Beethoven. Stefan Kastenberger, 21 years old and clarinetist from Lower Austria, will also give the premiere of his new composition “3 sketches for clarinet and piano”.

The violinists Lena Krzanowska and Emil Crudu show their skills with “Navarra op. 33” by Pablo de Sarasate. Leshan Zhou, a young trombonist, will also play a sonata by Hermann Schroeder (1972). Flora Almeida, a talented young tuba player, interprets a sonata by Henry Eccles. Miyuki Schüssler, professor at the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna, provides the musical accompaniment on the piano for all of these pieces.

The combination of young talent and classical masterpieces, in particular the examination of Gian Carlo Menotti's music, one of the great opera figures of the 20th century, makes this evening an unforgettable experience for music lovers from Vienna and beyond.
