Vienna is looking forward to the new tram line 12 – schedule and routes!

On Monday, September 1st, Vienna will have a new attraction: Tram line 12 will be ceremoniously opened and is intended to further strengthen the city's existing transport network. This line connects Josefstädter Straße in the 8th district with the Stuwerviertel and thus ensures a seamless connection between four districts.

The new line's route stretches a remarkable 7.2 kilometers and brings together various important junctions, including the U6 at Josefstädter Straße and Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof. From the Friedensbrücke to the Nordbahnviertel, Jägerstraße, Dresdner Straße and Traisengasse are also served. For all commuters and travelers there are numerous transfer options to the U1, U4, U6 and S-Bahn lines. A future connection to the new U5 is also being planned, which will also run towards Hernals via Arne-Karlsson-Park from 2032 at the earliest.

Urban mobility rethought

The Wiener Linien re-laid a total of 2.2 kilometers of the route, with 230 meters being designed as green track. This environmentally friendly element is intended not only to make the journey more pleasant, but also to contribute to a greener cityscape. Those responsible expect around 16,000 passengers every day who will benefit from this new connection.

Of course, public transport in Vienna plays a central role in the everyday life of residents and visitors. The city offers a highly developed network with several means of transport, including subway, S-Bahn, bus and trams. Those looking for flexible ticket options can choose between various offers, ranging from single trips to day tickets.

Tickets and city passes for discovering Vienna

A quick look at the available tickets shows: A single trip costs €2.40 and is valid in one direction. For frequent users, the day ticket for €8.00 is worth it. City passes are suitable for saving, such as the Vienna Pass, which offers free access to over 70 sights, or the Vienna City Card, which allows unlimited travel on public transport and offers advantages in museums and shops.

  • Vienna Pass: Kostenloser Eintritt zu über 70 Sehenswürdigkeiten, uneingeschränkter Zugang zu Hop-On/Hop-Off-Bussen.
  • Vienna City Card: Kostenfreie Nutzung der öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel, Vergünstigungen in zahlreichen Einrichtungen.

With the new tram line 12 and the well-developed network, traveling in Vienna will not only be easier, but also more attractive. “There’s something going on,” you have to say when it comes to improving urban mobility. So stay tuned and enjoy the ride!
