Two brutal attacks in Vienna: Injured people and arrests!
In the late hours of October 30, 2025, two violent incidents occurred in Vienna, underscoring the worrying pattern of increasing crime in the city. In Favoriten, a 41-year-old was approached by four unknown people who offered him drugs. When the man refused, he was brutally attacked with punches and a broken glass bottle. The attackers eventually stole his cell phone and the vehicle keys before fleeing. The man, who was hospitalized with injuries, left more questions about safety in the city.
As the local meinkreis.at reports, a suspect, a 42-year-old man, was arrested in Columbusgasse. When he was arrested, the emergency services discovered the victim's vehicle keys and fresh cuts on his hands.
Another incident in Brigittenau
But that's not all; There was also an attack in Brigittenau. A 35-year-old and a 39-year-old were approached by two perpetrators. After an argument, the 35-year-old was injured with a sharp object while the attackers stole the 39-year-old's cell phone. This escape towards the Dresdner Straße subway station brought new investigative approaches. Thanks to witness reports, the suspects, two men aged 25 and 31, were quickly caught. A seized knife and the stolen cell phone from this incident show how rapidly the situation is developing.
Rising crime rates in Vienna
These incidents are part of a worrying trend. According to a current Vienna.at analysis, crime in Vienna will have increased sharply in 2024. There has been an increase in violent crimes and robberies in public places, adding to the concerns of local residents. Compared to the previous year, robbery offenses increased from 1,180 to 1,394.
The increase in juvenile crime is particularly alarming. The numbers show an increase in suspects under the age of 18 from 8,360 in 2010 to 14,804 in 2024. The statistics also show that intensive offenders under the age of 14 are responsible for over 30% of the burglaries in Vienna.
The total number of police reports in Vienna reached 194,981 last year, representing an increase of 4.6% compared to the previous year. Unfortunately, the disclosure rate has also fallen, from 44.3% to 43.4%, which raises questions among many citizens about the effectiveness of security measures.
Outlook and measures
In order to counteract the increasing crime, prevention work was intensified. An interdisciplinary working group to combat child and youth crime was set up. This shows that “there is something going on” in Vienna and that the city community is seriously trying to ensure the safety of its citizens.
With recent incidents and rising numbers, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to these developments. Citizens are demanding more safety on the streets of Vienna. Every attack makes it clear: the situation in the city is tense and urgent solutions are needed.
