Pürstl makes it clear that he sees knives as one of the greatest dangers in public space. He cannot understand why people with such dangerous objects are traveling. In 2022, a total of 175 dangerous objects were confiscated in Vienna favorites, more than two thirds, namely 120, were knife.

enforcement of the law and security concerns

In view of these facts, Pürstl calls for improved networking of the authorities, especially with regard to psychological test results. The goal of the planned enforcement of the law should be to create a balance between legal gun ownership and the need for security of the population. "Carrying weapons outside of your own four walls should be prohibited," said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner. He has already commissioned experts to work out a specific law proposal that should focus on certain knife types, such as one -hand knives or knives with longer sounds. [bmi]

Even on the Praterstern, where there is also such a zone, 95 weapons could be confiscated, including 73 knives. These measures have calmed down the scenes in both zones and led to a slight decline in violent crime.

increased controls and addictive crime

These reinforced controls have not only had positive effects on weapon security. The police also recorded an increase in the ads in addictive crime. The measures are seen as a success by the police and the extension of the weapons ban zones has already been decided. Pürstl sees this an important step to improve general security.

The discussion about a general ban on knife and the plans for enforcing the law show that a rethink takes place in Vienna. Pürstl and Karner rely on preventive measures in order to protect the population comprehensively and counteract violent arguments. It remains to be seen whether and how the new regulations will ultimately be implemented.
