Pogačar vs. Vingegaard: Who will win the Tour de France 2025?

On July 5, 2025, the time has finally come: the 112th edition of the Tour de France starts with a field of 184 professional cyclists from 23 teams. Over three weeks, the athletes will cover 3,320 kilometers in a competition for glory and honor, until the race ends on July 27th on the Champs Élysées in Paris. Loud Small newspaper Tadej Pogačar (Team UAE) is the ultimate favorite for overall victory, supported by Nils Politt and Tim Wellens.

Tadej Pogačar is not only allowed to pedal as a beacon of hope, but is also the current world champion. At just 26 years old, he has already won three of the last five Tour de France and is a real frontrunner with a total of 99 victories. He demonstrated his impressive form at the Critérium du Dauphiné, where he left both Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel behind. This sporting dominance is underpinned by his 22 days of racing and nine victories this year ABC News supplemented.

The competition never sleeps

But the path to the title will be anything but easy. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma), 28 years old and also a former overall winner, is considered Pogačar's toughest rival. With Wout van Aert at his side, he has strong support in the team. The decision could come as early as the 13th stage, especially in a time trial that suits both professionals. Vingegaard and Pogačar have won all the titles in the last five tours.

Another promising driver is Remco Evenepoel (Soudal). Although he produced mixed performances, his strong time trial combined with his aggressiveness could cause surprises. But after a serious fall this year, his training wasn't optimal, so it will be interesting to see how he fares on the mountain stages.

Primož Roglič (Red Bull), who is one of the heavyweights with five Grand Tour victories, has also not been able to position himself clearly as injuries and rather unfavorable team progress are holding him back. At the same time, João Almeida (UAE), his team's second hope after Pogačar, is seen as a rider who can achieve great things after winning the Tour de Suisse.

Interesting outsiders and promising talents

There is also Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull), who could establish himself as an outsider. He made a name for himself with good performances at Paris-Nice and other races. Enric Mas (Movistar) is riding his seventh tour and is considered a stable rider without a breakthrough in the tour so far. Matteo Jorgenson (Visma) could act as a contingency plan for Vingegaard, while Felix Gall (Decathlon) has hopes of a top-five finish if he survives the flat stages.

Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos) will also enter the race as Spanish hopefuls. He has already collected a few top ten placements on the tour, but started the current season without any great results.
