New radar box on your belt: Vienna's fight against nighttime speeders!
The Vienna police have increased their speed cameras and thus sent a clear signal against speeding. The Döblinger Belt in particular, which is known for nighttime frenzy, is now the focus of the authorities. This reports Today. A new radar box has been installed at this popular speeding strip, which can flash speeders from behind. Those responsible hope to increase traffic safety on this critical section and reduce the radar-free area.
It looks like many drivers are informed about the locations of the radar boxes and are therefore more cautious. Despite existing lightning systems, speeding was a big problem in the past. The city of Vienna is therefore planning to expand its efforts to combat speeding.
Joint radar offensive
In addition to the radar boxes, Mobility City Councilor Ulli Sima announced that additional radar boxes and cameras would be purchased. This offensive aims to stop extreme speeders and reduce the number of tragic traffic accidents. According to a city press release, excessive speeding is a leading cause of fatal traffic accidents, and the numbers have been increasing for several years. OTS emphasizes the need for increased speed controls, particularly on popular racing routes.
A drastic event that increased public concern was the tragic accident of a mother of two who died in a speeding car in the fall of 2022. These and similar incidents have led to the city of Vienna increasing the penalties for excessive speeding. From March 1, 2024, speeding offenses will have to expect longer driving license suspensions and possible vehicle confiscation.
Frenzy in a larger context
The problem of speeders is not just limited to Vienna. Illegal car racing and risky driving have also been increasing in Germany for years - and with worrying consequences. NDR describes how police nationwide are seeing an increase in such races, driven by both the harrowing accident statistics and lower-level measures to increase surveillance. Despite strict laws, pressure from aggressive drivers remains high.
Overall, it is clear: the city of Vienna and the police are doing everything they can to stop the speeders. With a variety of measures and intensive controls, they hope that the roads will become safer in the future. Because one thing is certain: speed must not cost lives!
