Nadja Grossmann: Döbling has a new weightlifting hope!

In Vienna-Döbling, an aspiring athlete is gaining momentum in weightlifting: Nadja Grossmann. The 21-year-old found her love of sport almost by chance and is now a permanent fixture in the U23 national squad. The path here was anything but easy for the committed athlete.

After starting CrossFit in 2018, Grossmann quickly discovered her passion for weightlifting. She learned the technique herself through YouTube videos and established herself in strength training. She received support from her training as a fitness trainer, which helped her create her own training plans. Today she can proudly look back on a record of 80 kg in the snatch and 101 kg in the clean and jerk - that makes a total of 181 kg in the duel and ensures her participation in the U23 European Championships next September in Albania. My district reports that coordination and technique are crucial in their training.

An international debut is coming up

Nadja is not only seen as the new hope of Austrian weightlifting, but has also set herself the goal of lifting 183 kg in a duel on her international debut at the U23 European Championships. The event will take place from October 26th to November 3rd, 2024 in Raszyn, Poland, and Nadja will take part along with another nine lifters from the Austrian Weightlifting Association (ÖGV). The association focuses on strong performances and successes – an exciting challenge for the athlete. Weightlifting.net emphasizes that Nadja and her colleagues are preparing for the competition in an intensive national team course.

Overall, the Austrian team will consist of talented lifters, including Victoria Steiner, who competes up to 64 kg, and Alina Novak up to 71 kg. Nadja is registered in the category up to 76 kg. Her participation in the national team not only shows her commitment, but also the support she receives from coaches and club mates.

Overcoming prejudices in weightlifting

Although Nadja competes in a sport dominated by men, she doesn't let prejudices stop her. She sees the challenges more as an incentive to promote weightlifting and its attractiveness. “I want to use my successes to improve the public perception of weightlifting,” emphasizes Grossmann resolutely.

The ÖGV itself is optimistic about the future. The young talents, including Nadja, are part of a successful development in Austrian weightlifting. At the last European Junior Championships, the team won a total of 14 medals, which underlines the potential and progress in the spirit of the sport. German weightlifting highlights that the successful performance of the young talent not only speaks for the sport, but also for the hard work of the coaches and athletes behind these successes.

On October 29, 2024, Nadja Grossmann will be one of many talented athletes who will make their way into the history books of weightlifting and show what she's made of. The road to get there will be exciting, and the entire sports community in Vienna is keeping its fingers crossed for its success - there's something to come!
