Festival concert in Vienna: Musikbrücken celebrate 80 years of the Republic!
A very special event awaits music lovers in Vienna on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The 2nd concert of the 6th WISE Rebel: CRO-ART Festival of New Music brings creative sounds to the Bank Austria Salon in the Old Town Hall. The event entitled “MUSIC BUILDING BRIDGES / 2 / FESTIVE CONCERT: MUSIC BRIDGES” begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission opens at 6:30 p.m. and as places are limited, it is advisable to book tickets well in advance. Entry is based on the “pay as you wish” principle, with a donation of 20 euros or more recommended.
A sign of solidarity and cultural exchange is sent by the presentation of works by important composers from Austria, Croatia and Poland. Those present can look forward to pieces by Grażina Bacewicz, Tomislav Uhlik, Franjo Krežma and a world premiere by Gabriele Proy. The 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death will also be honored with a special commemoration, while the evening will end on a lively note with the sounds of Johann Strauss. This is not only a musical event, but also a ceremony to mark several anniversaries, including 80 years of the Republic of Austria, 30 years of EU membership and 1,100 years of the Kingdom of Croatia.
The contributors
The oldest among the participants is the talented Andrea Nikolić, who not only performs as a violinist but also takes over the artistic direction. She will be accompanied by an outstanding ensemble including Dominika Witowicz, Laura Kraljević (violin), Weronika Izert, Marta Potulska (viola), Jadwiga Roguska (cello) and Evan Hulbert (double bass).
History of the festival
The festival has had an exciting development. The CRO ArT Festival, which began on October 30, 2023, celebrated its 10th anniversary and this year was dedicated to the theme “Women, Love and Music of the Future”. Under the direction of Andrea Nikolić, who launched the festival in 2020, the festival aims to illuminate and promote cultural connections between Croatia and Austria.
Spectators can look forward to a diverse program that also includes future concerts. In addition to the festive concert in June, other performances are also planned, including a CD presentation and a panel discussion on December 3, 2023. This series will conclude on December 16, 2023 with a festive Christmas concert in the Dominican Church.
