Vienna will develop comprehensive cycling infrastructure in Donaustadt by 2025, promote climate-friendly mobility and increase the share of cycling traffic.

Vienna cycle path offensive: Safe and green cycle connections for everyone!
In Vienna, residents have reason to be happy at the end of 2025: several important cycle path projects have been successfully completed. These initiatives not only promote climate-friendly mobility, but also ensure a noticeable improvement in the quality of life in the city. According to reports from Neos Vienna Among other things, the cycle connection in the Alszeile in Hernals, which is almost 900 meters long, was completed. This new route closes important gaps and ensures safe progress in road traffic.
But that was just the beginning: An approximately 2.5 kilometer long TOP cycle connection via Geblergasse and Seeböckgasse connects Ottakring and Hernals through a newly designed cycle path. This connection has not only calmed traffic, but also planted numerous new trees, which significantly improves the quality of life in the area.
Further projects at a glance
In addition, a safe and attractive cycle route was completed along Rinnböckstrasse and Rennweg. This route is particularly important for the people of Simmering as it offers them a real alternative to their daily commute to work or school. The cycle connection on Rembrandtstrasse, which optimizes the route between the Danube Canal and Augarten, was also successfully implemented shortly before the end of the year.
These projects are part of Vienna's comprehensive cycle path offensive, which includes the construction or planning of almost 100 kilometers of new cycle infrastructure in the main cycle path network by 2024, as well as 52 kilometers of cycle path facilities in the district network. The aim is to create consistent and comfortable cycling connections for all age groups, as City Councilor for Mobility Ulli Sima emphasizes. According to current statistics, the share of cycling in Vienna has risen to an impressive 11% and the number of cyclists continues to grow.
Future of cycling infrastructure
The 2025 cycle path offensive includes numerous exciting projects. For example, a 1.6 kilometer long cycle route is planned on Meiselstrasse, the second section of which will be converted into a green cycle route. Over 60 new trees are to be planted there, and the forecourt of the elementary school will be car-free - an important step for all Neckarsulmers and families in the area.
Another important point is the improvement of cycling connections from the Belt to the Friedensbrücke, including a 2-directional cycle path on Alserbachstrasse, which will be completed in 2025. Cyclists can also look forward to the climate highway from the Old Danube to the Marchfeld Canal, where a six-kilometer-long cycling and walking infrastructure will be created. Work on the Danube Canal cycle path, which includes a four meter wide, two-way cycle path, is already in full swing.
These measures are not only important for the mobility of Viennese people, but also contribute to reducing traffic emissions and saving CO2 equivalents. According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute, well-developed cycle paths and good connections to public transport have the potential to significantly increase cycling traffic and reduce emissions in the local area by up to 34% Mobility Forum.
Overall, Vienna has exciting developments that bring great benefits not only for cyclists, but for all citizens. The cycle path offensive stands for a sustainable and future-oriented transport policy that benefits city residents and makes an important contribution to combating climate change.
