New Albert Schultz Park: Green paradise for the Danube city!
A new green retreat for the residents and visitors of Vienna is being built in the “Oberen Hausfeld” in the Danube city: the Albert Schultz Park, which is expected to open in December 2026. With an impressive area of approximately 22,218 square meters, this park will be a true leisure paradise for young and old. The plan is to create a variety of amenities that not only invite relaxation, but also significantly increase the quality of life in the area, such as meinkreis.at reported.
The park will provide shade, offer play and sports opportunities and a large water feature for the hot season. A spacious lawn area of 12,052 square meters is available for leisure activities and is intended to encourage sporting activities. The little ones have also been taken into consideration: play and climbing areas are specially designed for children and young people. In addition, a calisthenics facility and three table tennis tables will provide sporting challenges.
A heart of biodiversity
Particular attention was paid to the greenery. A total of 252 new trees will be planted to not only provide shade, but also to cool down in hot summer months. Eleven pergolas with a total of 223 square meters of space invite you to linger. In addition, 1,315 square meters of perennial and grass beds will be created to promote biodiversity and create habitat for various animal and plant species.
In terms of safety, the park will be equipped with drinking fountains and new lighting along the main paths so that visitors can feel safe even in the evening hours. A public toilet facility is being built by MA 48 waste management to further increase comfort.
Sustainable urban development
The creation of Albert Schultz Park is in the context of a growing discussion about the importance of urban greenery in city planning. As the University of Hanover describes in its research paper, green open spaces are becoming increasingly important because they offer numerous advantages. These range from improving the urban climate to positive effects on the physical and mental health of citizens. Sustainable and strategic planning is essential to meet the challenges of climate change and demographic changes, such as environment.uni-hannover.de thematised.
Cities around the world are increasingly concerned with connecting and securing their green spaces in order to promote quality of life and the environment. The Albert Schultz Park will therefore not only be a new place for recreation, but also a step towards ecologically sustainable and future-oriented urban design in Vienna.
The naming of the park in honor of Albert Schultz, the former district leader of the Danube city from 1973 to 1993, is further evidence of the appreciation of the history and the local community. The new park will be a place to meet, play and relax in an urban environment.
