Vienna: Sixth illegal beauty clinic uncovered – police strike!

An illegal beauty clinic has once again been exposed in Vienna. On Thursday, a joint inspection by the immediate measures group, consisting of police, financial police and municipal authorities, took place in a nail salon in the Alsergrund district. This is the sixth case of this type to be discovered in a short period of time. The suspicious beauty salon not only offered nail care services, but also cosmetic procedures such as Botox and filler treatments, which can only be carried out by qualified personnel courier reported.

During the inspection, the authorities found what they were looking for: a supposed doctor fell into the hands of the officers during treatment. All substances used were confiscated and the complaints filed against the operators and unauthorized personnel include violations of the Medical Act, quackery and undeclared work. Walter Hillerer, head of the emergency measures group, highlighted the importance of such operations to combat dangerous practices. He also called on the population to immediately report any information about illegal clinics in order to avoid health risks. The controls are part of an ongoing monitoring strategy to protect consumers as well Ö24 emphasized.

Popularity of illegal treatments

The popularity of aesthetic treatments in Austria continues unabated. According to the Vienna Medical Association, between 30,000 and 100,000 such procedures are carried out every year. Illegal treatments seem to stand invisibly in the shadow of these figures. Johannes Matiasek from the Medical Association describes the number of unreported cases of illegal procedures as “not low”, which is a worrying indication of the enormous market for cosmetic procedures. Recently, however, there have been two conspicuous cases of illegal beauty clinics in Vienna, one of them in Simmering The press recently reported.

In recent years, spending on beauty treatments has increased by a whopping 172% compared to ten years ago. The average expenditure per person is 68 euros annually. People particularly often resort to Botox, hyaluronic acid or laser treatments. When you consider that many of these procedures are offered in unauthorized studios, a clear risk to patients becomes apparent. Things often become particularly dangerous when attractive offers appear or prices are particularly low without these being accompanied by the required quality of service.

Create awareness of risks

In order to make informed decisions easier for the public, the city of Vienna has launched an educational campaign. This aims to inform citizens about the risks of aesthetic procedures and to encourage them to be carefully informed when choosing their doctor. In Austria, only specialists are authorized to carry out the relevant treatments, which creates very clear regulations.

For citizens: If you are considering treatment, you should always find out about the qualifications of the professionals and recognize that terms such as “cosmetic doctor” or “cosmetic surgeon” are not sufficient proof of qualified training. Reputable doctors are also available to provide transparent information about risks and side effects.

Especially in the booming world of cosmetic medicine, it is important to keep your eyes open and check local offers carefully so that a beauty wish does not turn into a nasty surprise.
