UN – A brief review
The history of the UN is closely linked to the horrors of the Second World War. The idea of an international peacekeeping organization was born during the war. The draft of the “Atlantic Charter” by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill on August 14, 1941 was an important step in this direction. In 1942, 26 countries, including Great Britain, the Soviet Union and the USA, signed the United Nations Declaration. DGVN informed that by 1945 a total of 45 states had ratified the charter, which finally came into force on October 24, 1945.
The core of the UN's goals is to prevent military violence and promote peaceful international relations. Established as an important multilateral forum, the UN is intended to create conditions for peace and promote trusting dialogue between countries. The principles of sovereign equality of all member states are the basis of their cooperation. UNRIC emphasizes that the topic of international cooperation to solve global problems is also one of the tasks of the UN.
