Dog in glowing car: Police break window and save lives!
A special kind of excitement occurred on Friday, June 12, 2025, in Büchlberg, Bavaria. At around 5:45 p.m., police received an alarming report that a dog was suffering in a parked car. With outside temperatures of a pleasant 30 degrees, the local police announced the shocking discovery: it had become almost unbearably hot in the closed vehicle. The windows were closed, the dog's owner was not in sight, while the animal showed clear signs of overheating. Quick action was necessary.
The police did not remain idle and had to break the car window to free the dog from its predicament. After the rescue, the dog was immediately given fresh water and taken to the shady part of a nearby meadow. Luckily, the owner arrived shortly afterwards and was able to welcome her loyal companion back. However, the police have already launched an investigation into a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. As can be seen from heute.at, this will have consequences.
Heat can be a death trap for animals
Experts warn urgently about the danger of leaving dogs in the car in hot weather. PETA filed a complaint with the Passau public prosecutor's office on June 11th and is calling for the owner to be banned from stopping. PETA expert Björn Thun makes it clear how quickly the interior temperature in a parked car can reach abrupt heights: within just 30 minutes, it can rise to almost 50 degrees in the car. This is not only unpleasant, but can be fatal for animals.
“Animals should never be left in a parked car, especially not in the summer months,” adds the organization “Four Paws”. According to them, it's not just the high temperatures that are dangerous for animals. Leaving them behind in sub-zero temperatures can also have fatal consequences, as the shaking and whining of dogs shows. In such cases, it is advisable to first look for the owner or, if he cannot be found, to contact the police or fire department.
Animal protection concerns us all
The animal welfare dog regulations leave no room for maneuver: dog owners are obliged to provide fresh air and appropriate temperatures. If you ignore these regulations, you are not only negligent, but you are also exposing your animals to considerable danger. “The first signs of overheating are panting, restlessness and apathy,” says the warning from laves.niedersachsen.de. If symptoms like this occur, dog owners should act immediately and keep the animal cool.
In extreme temperatures, Vier Pfoten advises: activities with animals should be postponed to the cooler morning and evening hours, and animals should never be left in a parked car, not even in the shade. Because patience and prudence are the key to the well-being of our four-legged companion.
The alarming incidents surrounding heat stress in animals remind us to be vigilant and always keep the well-being of our pets in mind. The rescuers in Büchlberg have proven how important it is to recognize the dangers and act quickly in an emergency. Because a heart for animals is the best thing we can give them!
