Titanic exhibition in Vienna: Experience the tragedy up close!

A spectacular experience that combines history and emotions opened its doors today in the charming capital of Vienna: the immersive Titanic exhibition in the Marx Hall. Using a unique combination of virtual reality and historical recreations, it draws visitors into the captivating world of the famous luxury ship that tragically collided with an iceberg in 1912.

The official opening of the exhibition took place on October 1st, while an exclusive VIP gala was celebrated this week, attended by numerous celebrities such as actresses Heike and Bigi Fischer, Albert Fortell, Olivia Silhavy and Barbara Wussow. The event was organized by Peter Hosek, while the creative mind behind the concept, curator Juan Cruz Ercoreca from Barcelona, was responsible for the visionary design. “The atmosphere here is so alive — like we're really on board the Titanic,” said one excited visitor.

A journey through history

Visitors have the opportunity to experience the incomparable tragedy of 1912 up close. The exhibition runs until January 2026 and will captivate people by retracing the defining moments of the maiden voyage. This began on April 10, 1912 in the direction of New York and ended in disaster: Within just 2 hours and 40 minutes, the Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg, and of the over 2,200 people on board, only 705 survived.

However, the immersive experience goes beyond simply tracing the events. Topics such as the luxury on board, the social differences of the passengers - from emigrants to aristocrats and millionaires - as well as technical details of the ship are conveyed in detail. “It is important to understand the human destinies of this distant time,” said Ercoreca, who ensures that the emotional stories of the passengers are not forgotten.

Vienna as a pioneer of interactive exhibitions

Vienna is once again positioning itself as a hotspot for interactive experiences. After the great success of the Pompeii exhibition, which attracted over 120,000 visitors, the Titanic exhibition is the next highlight in the city's cultural offering. The organizers are expecting a huge turnout as other Titanic exhibitions in Europe have also opened their doors. The special focus on immersive technologies such as 360-degree projections and virtual reality promotes a deeper connection between visitors and the events and allows them to understand the tragedy in a new way.

Amidst historical props and the impressive backdrop of Marx Hall, the Titanic is presented not only as a fateful ship, but also as a symbol of the human drive for progress and greed. The exhibition “Titanic: An Immersive Journey” also focuses on the rescue ship Carpathia and the tragic role of the sister ships, which play a less well-known – but equally important – role in this story.

Visit this unique exhibition, which is open to anyone interested until January 2026, and let yourself be enchanted by the magic and tragedy of the Titanic.
